Gearloose Lapidary, LLC Began as "Gearloose" in 1997. The "BATT" lap was originally developed by Jon Rolfe for use in his own shop. A directionally crystallized cast alloy, it quickly became known for diamond retention. One might say it became a business by accident, as Jon was quite happy in his career at the time. There followed a faceting machine, the "XS3", whose design and rights were later bought by Graves Company. By 2007, Jon ditched the "Real Job" and got serious about Gearloose.
