Mike Soebbing

Mike Soebbing (USA)

The Gemstone Man

BIO

Mike Soebbing's story is similar to many others: as a 13 year old, living in northern Minnesota, walking along a gravel road, he found a Lake Superior Agate - and ''click'' - he was into the world of lapidary.  While still very young, he moved on to faceting, getting lessons from a local farmer. Mike purchased that second hand machine from his teacher who himself was moving on up to a new Ultra Tec.

In a way, that Ultra Tec purchase was a continuation of the teaching, and pretty soon, having absorbed the ''lesson'', Mike decided that he too should move on up - after all, he had cutting customers -- and he purchased an Ultra Tec. That was 30 years ago. Today, he's using the same machine. We learned about Mike when he sent his machine for adjustments - yes, the first time... after 30 years.

Mike now lives in Montana - where he moved to be near the source of the Montana Sapphires that have become, and continue to be a major part of his faceting business.

WHY OREGON SUNSTONE?

Oregon Sunstone is truly a beautiful gemstone. Each piece of rough I've had the pleasure of faceting has had it's own personality and beauty.  From the different colors (and shades thereof) a  "one of a kind" treasure can be created for it's owner.   Such beauty coming from this remote area of Oregon is amazing.  I've enjoy each result of reshaping this piece of mother nature!
