Hobbyist gemstone cutter since the age of 14. Boyd built homes in Colorado during his youth, then in 2008 the economy crashed and he was looking for work. So he decided to start gem cutting as a profession. Boyd met up with Ron Pingenot (master cutter) and Ron was gracious enough to take Boyd under his wing. Not holding anything back, Ron has been Boyd's mentor for over 5 years now and for the distance future. Having completed the courses at GIA, Boyd is now a Graduate Gemologist but still forging ahead with his education, and he is currently studying crystallology.
Oregon Sunstone is just a delight to work with. It is easy to cut and polish, and larger stones are still available. Sunstone is an up and coming stone in the gem market that is exclusive to being mined in the US, which also has its appeal to Boyd. The colors that are coming out now afford us cutters to great artistic freedom which is also a blessing.
