I've always been a rockhound and used to go prospecting for gold with my grandfather as a child. Around 1998, I saw someone faceting a gemstone on T.V. and decided that was something I just had to learn to do. So, I bought the equipment and struggled through learning how to cut stones in my basement. After a few years, I had so many cut stones that I decided to sell some so I could have the money to buy more rough. In 2000, I starting selling to area jewelers, put up my website and started selling on ebay. Within three months I had sold about 90 stones, In 2002, I quit my day job and have been a full-time gem cutter ever since.
Oregon Sunstones have always been one of my favorite gems, and having started my faceting hobby/job in Oregon, I bought lots of the rough at local gem shows and did pretty well cutting and selling them. There is just nothing else like Oregon Sunstone with its unique color combinations and beautiful copper schiller.
