The monetary value of a particular piece of Oregon Sunstone depends on the color, grade, rarity, market demand, supply, industry trends, and so on. For this reason, we decided to assign a partial order over the different types of Oregon Sunstone, and not absolute values. We hope that as the International market starts to realize the potential of this untreated, rare, and beatiful gemstone, future prices will trend upwards and everyone who already invests in Oregon Sunstone will benefit from these trends.
Although this chart won't help you assign an exact dollar value to a particular piece, it will allow you to compare two pieces. Furthermore it will allow you to compare several pieces (with some, possibly, being valued equally). It is up to the buyer and the seller to determine from what they notice in the marketplace to be the fair and honest trading price. We hope that as the sunstone industry grows, we will be able to assist in providing those numbers but as of now, the market is still too small to have clear prices.
In my experience selling Oregon sunstone I’ve notice the following consumer trends when it comes to value, clarity, tone/saturation, schiller intensity and quality of cut but these are my companies rough estimates. In the future all participating miners will further refine and perfect this informative table.
